Fellow SSC junior tennis member Gabby Gregg put the cherry on top of a successful year of tennis by winning the 16/u Australian Championships girls’ singles title at the December Showdown.
Gregg, who helped New South Wales win the 15/u Australian Team Championships in May, beat Gabrielle Villegas 6-2 6-1 in the final at Melbourne Park.
The 15-year-old described it as her best performance of the week. “I feel really great. I’m incredibly happy with the result,” she said.
“I kept competing from the first ball to the last and I think that’s what I do best.”
With this win, Gregg earns a wildcard into the Australian Open junior championships in January, which is a huge accomplishment.
“My team and I have wanted this for a long time, it makes us incredibly happy,” she said.
“My main aim was to qualify for a junior Slam. Now that I have, I really want to win one.”

Gregg received a wildcard into the girls’ singles of the Junior Australian Grand Slam where she clinched the first set 6-2 before going down 6-3, 7-5 to O.Choi of Japan.
